If you are considering a hysterectomy with the DaVinci Surgical Robot, I HIGHLY recommend it. I had my hysterectomy in November 2012 and I could not have asked for a better outcome.   It just so happens that I worked for the creator of the surgical robot, Intuitive Surgical, about 10 years ago and I never thought I would be a patient.  My surgeon, Dr. Kristine Borrison, was awesome and my recovery was truly amazing.  I had surgery on a Monday, went home from the hospital the next day and I was feeling great by Thursday, of the same week!  I was amazed that the down time was minimal.  I did take three weeks off of work as recommended by my physician and enjoyed every minute of it. Additionally, I only took Motrin for a few days when I was home and I did not require any narcotics. Again, amazing!

I contemplated this procedure for about eight months and my body was forcing me to make this decision but I was resisting yet another surgery as I was diagnosed with early stage 1 breast cancer in 2010. I had to come to terms with the fact that this important organ in my body that allowed me to carry my children, now had to be removed.  I was truly struggling with having another surgical procedure but I was also being reminded, on a monthly basis, why I needed to have this procedure done. After learning that I had a large uterus, four fibroid tumors that totaled 18 centimeters, and a cyst on one ovary, the time had come to proceed with surgery.  Dr. Borrison explained she would make 4 small incisions (the size of your pinky fingernail) on my abdomen, I would spend one night in the hospital and I should plan to get some rest for the next few weeks during my recovery.

Truly, this is the future of surgery and how wonderful it is that the patient can recover so quickly.
