My Story

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr Kristine Borrison for taking amazing care of me throughout my Da Vinci robotic hysterectomy experience.  I suffered for over a year with large uterine fibroids in areas of my uterus that produced intense symptoms and a resulting lack of quality of life.  Prior to this, I had known an impeccable state of health and vitality as an athlete, so this was an unwelcome change of events.  I sought out treatment and surgery options searching for the right solution.   Several top doctors opinions advised, that in order to return to my normal state of health and vitality, I needed a hysterectomy.

After much research, I discovered the da Vinci robotic surgery would be the least invasive and quickest recovery time, which suited my busy professional, athletic and personal life.  I sought out the best doctor to perform my surgery.  I must say the Hyster-Sisters website was also instrumental in assisting me making my decision of what kind of hysterectomy surgery to have, as they have a lot of detailed information about the surgeries and thousands of women’s personal stories and experiences.  I read a lot of women’s experiences from women who had the traditional abdominal hysterectomy, and they seemed to suffer greatly in their pain and slow recovery time, not to mention their huge scars.  Thousands of women raved about how easy their da Vinci robotic surgery and recovery time was, and that their four tiny incisions were just that, tiny.

I met with Dr. Borrison, and knew I had found my doctor/surgeon and the right route for me – the da Vinci robotic surgery.  Dr. Borrison is very knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate, and insightful and she was able to answer all my questions and put my mind at ease with the upcoming surgery.  I also watched the CD she gave me and videos of the surgery, which helped me visualize a successful outcome.

It was simply the best decision about my health I ever made (besides doing my best to keep myself as healthy as possible)!  The surgery itself and 24 hour hospital stay was a wonderful experience with all the caring nurses, anesthesiologist and Dr. Borrison’s impeccable care.  Dr. Borrison’s expertise and compassion shone brightly.  I have to say I smiled from ear to ear (and probably a lot with the happy sedatives they give you before they roll you in), when I saw the big Da Vinci robot with all those arms in the surgery theatre.  I thought, now this is pretty amazing futuristic ’Star Trek' technology we have these days that helps heal women in the least invasive way possible!   Dr. Borrison really is a super star surgeon with a huge heart, bright mind and technology along with angels on her side!

After the surgery, the first few days I had some pain, but it was manageable with the prescribed lighter pain meds, and I slept a lot.  I took a full two weeks off running my business to heal and recover, and proceeded to sleep and rest a lot while also taking 3-4 small 10-15 minute walks each day and eating very healthy, which really helped me bounce back quickly.  I am grateful I took that time for myself.  After that, I was able to get back to work and life as I paced myself, and now 6 weeks out I am fully recovered, doing amazingly well, and thankfully exercising and doing other activities again.  Mostly, I am SO grateful to have my quality of life back and I know it was one hundred percent the right decision for me.  I can say I feel incredibly blessed to feel healthy, vital and strong once again!

Thank you Dr. Borrison!

If you are reading this, you must be suffering in some way, and I wish you all the best in your healing process.  Know you are in very good hands with Dr. Borrison and her staff.  She takes her physician oath of care seriously, and for that I am forever grateful.
